Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police are investigating a case of cyber fraud where an 81-year-old man from Ameerpet lost ₹7.11 lakh. The scammers, posing as a woman in distress, tricked him into sending money through WhatsApp.
Elderly targeted in Hyderabad cyber fraud case
The woman, who called herself Maya Rajput, claimed to need funds for medical treatment and to recover pledged gold. Believing the story, the man transferred money multiple times. When the demands grew, he became suspicious and approached his family, who helped him file a complaint.
Police said the case has been registered and efforts are underway to identify the culprits. They also urged citizens, especially the elderly, to remain cautious about online conversations that involve money requests.
