KTR Rao reacts to Danam Nagender disqualification after Supreme Court ruling

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court decision upholding the disqualification of Danam Nagender. The Supreme Court dismissed Nagender’s petition challenging the Telangana High Court judgment that had disqualified him under the anti-defection law.

Nagender was elected from the Khairatabad Assembly constituency on a BRS ticket in 2023. He later joined the Congress and contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Secunderabad as the party’s candidate.

Reacting to the judgment, KTR described it as a direct blow to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He alleged that the Congress leadership had tried to protect defecting lawmakers through the office of the Legislative Assembly Speaker.

KTR also referred to Nagender’s earlier election from the Khairatabad constituency while commenting on the disqualification. He said, “The people of Khairatabad will soon give their verdict in three years of betrayal, broken promises, and misrule.”

High Court ruling upheld in Nagender disqualification case

The High Court had declared the Khairatabad Assembly seat vacant after disqualifying Nagender. It had held that his disqualification took effect from April 23, 2024.

Meanwhile, KTR said the Supreme Court judgment could lead to similar legal outcomes in other cases. He described the development as “one wicket down – more to follow soon.”
