Hyderabad Marathon exhibition celebrates 15 years through photography

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Marathon’s 15-year journey came alive through a special photographic exhibition at Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad. The exhibition, titled “Beyond the Finish Line — 15 Years of Hyderabad Marathon”, captures runners, volunteers, supporters and the city’s marathon memories.

NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026 organised the exhibition with Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad. The organisers inaugurated it on Thursday in the presence of Hyderabad Runners Society members, the running community and photography enthusiasts.

Visitors can see the exhibition from September 25 to October 5, 2026, at Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad in Banjara Hills. The organisers have invited the public, fitness enthusiasts, aspiring runners and marathoners to view the photographs and find inspiration in the stories behind the event.

Amita Desai, Founder Director and Executive Director of Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad and Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany, described the collaboration as a unique initiative. She said the project extends beyond Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad’s cultural engagements.

Desai said the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026 felt like a “sea of humanity”. She said the event showed how the city comes together to make a major community event happen.

She highlighted three lessons from the marathon experience. These include taking charge of health and life, moving from confusion towards clarity and purpose, and discovering resilience within a diverse community.

Desai also said Hyderabad Runners has helped make Hyderabad a city of health, environmental consciousness, joy and collective consciousness.

Rajesh Vetcha, Founder and Mentor of Hyderabad Runners, said the organisation looks beyond physical health. Its vision also focuses on overall wellbeing and making an active lifestyle part of everyday life for Hyderabad citizens.

Fifteen years told through 15 photographs

The exhibition marks the 15-year journey through 15 photographs. It also brings together countless entries and stories from one of Hyderabad’s largest community-driven events.

The display features photographs from the recently concluded Hyderabad Marathon Photo Contest. The images capture the excitement at the starting line and the intensity of the race.

They also show the emotions at the finish line and moments that often escape attention. In addition, the photographs highlight runners, volunteers, supporters, photographers and the city itself.

Hyderabad Marathon goes beyond race results

Over 15 years, Hyderabad Marathon has brought people from different backgrounds together. They share a common purpose to run, participate, support and celebrate.

The exhibition looks beyond race timings, medals and finishing positions. Instead, it focuses on the human stories that give the marathon its wider meaning.

For example, one photograph may show a runner pushing through the final kilometre. Another may capture a volunteer encouraging a participant.

Families cheer along the route, while photographers record fleeting emotions. Together, these moments reveal different sides of the marathon experience.

The exhibition also celebrates Hyderabad as an active and vibrant city. Its roads, landmarks, neighbourhoods and people have become part of the marathon journey.

Photography captures the emotion behind the race

Marathon statistics can record registrations, kilometres and finishing times. However, photography captures the emotion surrounding those figures.

The displayed photographs document the Hyderabad Marathon’s evolution. They also preserve moments of joy, struggle, determination, camaraderie and celebration.

The recent photo contest received entries from different perspectives. As a result, photographers presented the marathon not simply as a race, but as a story unfolding across Hyderabad.

The exhibition gives runners, photography enthusiasts and the wider public a chance to revisit that journey. Visitors can also discover stories that exist beyond the finish line.

The NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026 is a World Athletics Label Race. It is also India’s first marathon to receive the World Athletics Silver Sustainability Award.
