Hyderabad: Hyderabad girl Mehrunisha Begum has won a WorldSkills silver medal for India in Logistics and Freight Forwarding at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai. The competition was held in Shanghai, China, from September 22 to 27, 2026.
Mehrunisha competed against skilled participants from across the world. She demonstrated abilities in international logistics, freight forwarding, documentation, routing, commercial decision-making and customer handling.
WorldSkills is one of the world’s largest international platforms for vocational and professional skills. It is also regarded as a global championship for skilled professions.
WorldSkills silver medal follows industry experience
Mehrunisha completed her BBA in Logistics from Begumpet Degree College in Hyderabad. She currently works with Cargomen Logistics India Pvt. Ltd.
At Cargomen, she handles the Thermo Fisher Scientific account. Her work has given her practical exposure to international logistics operations, customer coordination, documentation and freight-management processes.
She underwent intensive preparation under Kamal Jain and the training team. Her training covered international freight forwarding, air and ocean cargo, multimodal transport and freight calculations.
The preparation also included Incoterms, customs procedures, documentation and dangerous goods. Customer communication and practical problem-solving were part of the training as well.
The Logistics Sector Skill Council provided training and institutional support for her WorldSkills journey. The council promotes skill development and industry-aligned competencies in India’s logistics sector.
WorldSkills silver medal highlights global logistics skills
Around 1,400 young professionals from nearly 70 countries and regions competed at the 48th WorldSkills Competition. Participants competed across 64 skills covering manufacturing, technology, services, transportation, construction and logistics.
The competition gives young professionals an opportunity to benchmark their knowledge and practical abilities against international occupational standards. Logistics and Freight Forwarding supports international trade and global supply chains.
Competitors in the skill are tested in freight planning, international transportation and documentation. They also face tasks involving customs compliance, cargo handling, costing, routing, Incoterms and customer service.
Operational problem-solving is another important part of the competition. Mehrunisha’s WorldSkills silver medal reflects her performance in these areas.
India’s skills ecosystem supports WorldSkills participation
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship promotes vocational and professional skills through the Skill India ecosystem. The National Skill Development Corporation plays a key role in coordinating India’s participation in WorldSkills.
NSDC also supports the development of India’s national skill competition ecosystem. Through IndiaSkills and WorldSkills, young professionals receive opportunities to build industry-relevant competencies.
These programmes also provide platforms for participants to represent India internationally. Mehrunisha’s journey combines formal education, industry experience, professional training and structured mentorship.
Her progression from studying logistics in Hyderabad to gaining industry experience at Cargomen culminated in a WorldSkills silver medal for India. The achievement highlights the opportunities available in logistics and supply chain management.
