Hyderabad industrialist Anil Reddy Vennum elected AIPMA president

Hyderabad: Industrialist Anil Reddy Vennum has taken charge as president of the All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (AIPMA) for a one-year term. Members unanimously elected the Hyderabad-based industrialist, who formally assumed office at the association’s Mumbai headquarters on October 1, 2026.

Vennum previously served as AIPMA’s Senior Vice President–Mumbai. He is the first Telugu person to lead the 81-year-old national plastics industry body. His priorities include industry growth, recycling, exports, sustainability and stronger support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“My aim is to make the coming year a year of action for the Indian plastics industry,” Vennum said. He wants to increase public awareness, strengthen recycling and circularity, improve MSME competitiveness and expand exports. He also called for closer cooperation between industry and governments.

Established in 1945, AIPMA is among India’s oldest and largest non-profit organisations representing the plastics sector. Headquartered in Mumbai, it has regional offices in Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata. The association represents more than 22,000 members across over 175 cities through direct membership and 27 affiliated associations. Nearly 90% of its members belong to the MSME sector.

Its membership includes polymer and machinery manufacturers, processors, mould and die makers, traders, exporters and consultants. AIPMA also engages with government ministries on policy, trade, standards and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).

AIPMA president sets recycling, export and MSME priorities

Restoring public confidence in plastics will be Vennum’s immediate priority. AIPMA plans a national awareness campaign to address misconceptions and promote responsible use, reuse and recycling.

“My immediate task will be to restore public confidence in plastics,” he said. He added that the industry must encourage suitable applications, expand recycling and find productive uses for plastic waste.

The association will explore a Plastic Waste-to-Value Mission to turn plastic waste into useful products and economic value. It will also encourage suitable recycled plastic use in road construction and other applications where technical and environmental conditions permit.

AIPMA plans to work with municipalities and state governments on city-specific waste management solutions. These partnerships will focus on segregation, collection, recycling and responsible waste management.

Vennum has also proposed a National Plastic Recycling and Circular Economy Challenge. The initiative would bring together startups, MSMEs, educational institutions, technology organisations and industry to develop recycling and reuse solutions.

Export growth will form another major part of his agenda. Vennum said AIPMA would work to position India as an international sourcing base for plastics. The association will help manufacturers, particularly MSMEs, improve global competitiveness and access overseas markets.

He also wants to promote Plastic Parks and integrated industry clusters. These facilities could provide common infrastructure, testing facilities, recycling capabilities, skills training and technology support.

For MSMEs, AIPMA will encourage technology adoption, automation, quality improvement, skill development and energy efficiency. It will also promote BIS and ISO standards, alongside Six Sigma and Lean Management practices.

Vennum said environmental responsibility must remain central to industry growth. He called for cooperation among manufacturers, governments, recyclers, municipalities, technology providers and consumers to build a stronger circular economy.

“The industry has to be part of the solution,” he said.
