Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president Ramchander Rao on Wednesday made foreign funding allegations against opposition groups. He accused them of receiving foreign funds to destabilise India and act against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He spoke before the national media in the city.
Rao cited a tweet by singer Mary Millben to support his claims. The allegations centred on alleged efforts to create communal unrest in India.
Millben’s tweet and the alleged US funding
Rao said Millben had exposed what he described as direct funding from the United States to the “Cockroach Janata Party”. He alleged that the money entered India to trigger religious tensions. However, the statement did not include independent evidence for the claims.
The BJP president said Millben’s tweet had brought attention to the alleged role of foreign agencies. He argued that the purported funding supported activities against the Indian government. He also linked the allegations to concerns about communal harmony.
CAA protests and the Shaheen Bagh comparison
Rao also referred to the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He said the Shaheen Bagh episode had shown similar circumstances in the past. According to him, the current developments followed a comparable pattern. He alleged that foreign money supported activities against the Modi government and threatened stability in the country.
Foreign funding allegations name AAP front group and Soros
Rao further claimed that the AAP front organisation, which he identified as CJP, was being used extensively for these activities. He accused opposition groups of using overseas financial support to pursue their objectives. In addition, he referred to foreign financier George Soros. He questioned how such funds allegedly reached the groups.
Rao’s remarks focused on alleged connections between overseas funding, opposition groups and unrest in India. However, the statement did not provide independent verification of the alleged funding arrangements. It also did not establish the organisations’ involvement in the activities he described.
