Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan demanded the resignation of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday, citing alleged power shortages and irregularities at Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). He accused the Congress government of weakening Telangana’s power sector and of failing to address allegations involving coal worth Rs 1,600 crore.
Sravan held the Chief Minister and his Cabinet responsible for the alleged deterioration in power supply. He also called for an independent investigation into the reported disappearance of coal from Singareni.
He made the allegations while thanking Singareni workers and the public for backing the meeting of BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao at Godavarikhani, which he described as a major success.
Sravan said former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had raised Telangana’s power generation capacity from 7,000 MW to 20,000 MW during the previous BRS administration. According to him, the expansion helped the state overcome power shortages and supply electricity without interruptions.
He alleged, however, that the Congress government’s policies had weakened the sector and triggered fresh supply problems. Sravan disputed claims by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka that Telangana had no power outages.
He alleged that farmers and industries continued to face electricity interruptions while the government ignored their difficulties. Sravan also questioned the reported reduction in the proposed capacities of the Yadadri and Jainoor power projects, and demanded that the government explain the changes and their implications for the state’s electricity supply.
Turning to Singareni, Sravan alleged that 40 lakh metric tonnes of coal worth Rs 1,600 crore had gone missing. He demanded an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a sitting judge to establish the facts behind the alleged irregularities.
The BRS MLC also accused the Congress government of pursuing a plan to privatise Singareni and hand over control to the Adani Group. He linked the alleged coal irregularities to this purported plan.
Kaleshwaram neglect alleged
Sravan also criticised the government’s handling of the Kaleshwaram irrigation project. He alleged that political considerations had led to its neglect, affecting groundwater levels and farmers across North Telangana.
Drawing a comparison with demands by Congress leaders for accountability over alleged electoral irregularities, Sravan questioned the government’s own approach to responsibility. He maintained that Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet should accept moral responsibility for the reported power disruptions and the alleged coal irregularities.
Sravan reiterated his demand for Revanth Reddy’s resignation, alleging that the Congress administration’s policies were pushing Telangana towards another power crisis.
