CBN seizes 2,774 kg of poppy straw in three Madhya Pradesh operations

New Delhi: Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Madhya Pradesh Unit, carried out a major poppy straw seizure across three operations. Officers recovered 2,774.650 kg of illicit poppy straw and seized five vehicles. They also arrested four people between October 27 and 29, 2026.

The largest recovery came on October 27, when CBN officers intercepted a Rajasthan-registered container truck. Acting on specific intelligence, the team stopped it near Sitamau on the Mumbai–Delhi Expressway. The truck was suspected of carrying poppy straw to Punjab.

A search uncovered 2,308 kg of poppy straw packed in 115 white sacks. The sacks were concealed beneath 598 white sacks of chana husk used as cover cargo. Officers seized the contraband and container truck after completing legal formalities. They arrested one person under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway.

On the night of October 28 and 29, CBN officers conducted another operation at Ishaqpur village in Mandsaur district. They intercepted a Mahindra pickup truck with a suspected fake registration number and a Mahindra Bolero car. One person was apprehended, while another suspect abandoned the Bolero and fled after a brief chase.

A search of both vehicles recovered 416.560 kg of illicit poppy straw, also known as Dodachura. The haul comprised 22 plastic bags, with 17 found in the pickup and five in the Bolero. Officers seized both vehicles and the contraband. One person was arrested under the NDPS Act, while the investigation continues.

CBN operations recover poppy straw from two more vehicles

On October 28, officers intercepted a Madhya Pradesh-registered Hyundai Grand i10 and a TVS motorcycle. The operation took place on the Fatehgarh–Nayakheda–Pipliya Mandi route. Intelligence indicated that the motorcycle was escorting the car, which was suspected of carrying 50–60 kg of poppy straw.

A search of the car yielded 50.090 kg of poppy straw packed in two bags. CBN seized the contraband, the Hyundai Grand i10 and the TVS motorcycle under the NDPS Act. Two people were arrested in connection with the case. Further investigation is in progress.

The three operations reflect CBN’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal cultivation, production, possession and trafficking of narcotic drugs. The agency said it would continue targeting drug trafficking networks and enforcing the NDPS Act. It also reaffirmed its commitment to the national mission of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
