Hyderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the BJP’s kilometre-long ‘Maha Padyatra’ in Hyderabad on Monday, November 2, 2026. The march formed part of the party’s nationwide ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ campaign, which seeks to counter opposition protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and allegations of voter theft.
The march began near the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue at Basheerbagh and concluded at the historic Mozamjahi Market. Thousands of BJP workers joined Shah, along with Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao also participated in the march.
Before the rally, Shah visited the Bhagyalakshmi Temple near Charminar and offered special prayers. He arrived at Begumpet Airport before proceeding to the temple. The party then organised the foot march through central Hyderabad.
At the public gathering near MJ Market, Shah launched a sharp attack on the Congress, BRS and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. He alleged that these parties could not stop corruption and projected the BJP as an alternative in Telangana.
Shah also accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of allowing the collection of what he called “RR Tax”. He alleged that the money was being channelled to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. These remarks were part of his criticism of the state government.
Shah targets opposition over EVMs and leadership
The Union Minister mocked the Congress leadership, claiming the party was “on a ventilator”. He also ridiculed Rahul Gandhi’s prime ministerial ambitions, saying he could become prime minister only in a mock Parliament.
Shah also questioned the opposition’s allegations of electronic voting machine manipulation. He asked how the Congress could win elections in Telangana and Kerala if EVMs were compromised. His remarks sought to challenge the opposition’s claims about electoral processes.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Traffic Police announced diversions around key central areas to manage the rally crowd. The restrictions affected Abids, Basheerbagh, MJ Market, Liberty and Nampally. Evening Telangana State Road Transport Corporation bus routes also faced changes due to the event.
