New Delhi: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has onboarded 300 Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs) since January, expanding the Aadhaar verification ecosystem. The initiative enables secure, consent-based and paperless identity checks across hospitality, healthcare, education and consumer services.
The expansion supports wider adoption of Aadhaar-based verification among organisations and residents. Moreover, UIDAI said the framework prioritises privacy, user control and data minimisation in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act.
The onboarding covers businesses and institutions in hotels, hospitality, healthcare, education, events and the gig economy. It also includes consumer-facing service providers seeking convenient identity checks. The mechanism aims to simplify verification while reducing reliance on physical documents.
Aadhaar verification expands alongside app-based services
The Aadhaar App has recorded nearly 7.5 crore downloads, reflecting growing use of smartphone-based identity services. It has enabled more than 86 lakh mobile number updates, 22.16 lakh address updates and 40.25 lakh email updates. These services allow residents to update details without visiting an Aadhaar centre.
The app has also recorded 4.6 crore biometric lock and unlock transactions. These features give Aadhaar holders greater control over the use of their biometric information and add a layer of privacy protection.
Additionally, 3.61 lakh Aadhaar lock and unlock transactions have been recorded through the app. The facility allows users to control access to their Aadhaar authentication, strengthening personal security.
UIDAI said the expansion of offline verification and app-based services supports the government’s Digital India vision. These initiatives aim to improve ease of living through secure, accessible and technology-enabled public services, contributing to the broader goal of Viksit Bharat.
