New Delhi: Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) has recommended asset monetisation proposals involving assets worth over Rs 1,100 crore for consideration by the Cabinet-delegated Alternative Mechanism (AM). The proposals mainly cover surplus land and building assets belonging to Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs).
The IMG is chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) and co-chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Its recommendations mark progress in the Centre’s efforts to unlock the economic value of surplus and underutilised public assets.
The proposals will now go before the Alternative Mechanism for consideration and approval. Following the necessary clearances, the concerned authorities will undertake further monetisation activities under prescribed procedures.
The government aims to improve the utilisation of surplus assets held by CPSEs and other public sector entities. Through systematic assessment, professional transaction preparation and competitive price discovery, the programme seeks to help government organisations realise the economic value of unused properties.
NLMC to facilitate asset monetisation and transaction processes
The National Land Monetization Corporation (NLMC) plays a central role in facilitating the monetisation of surplus land and other non-core assets. The specialised government institution works with concerned ministries, departments and asset-owning organisations.
Its responsibilities include asset assessment, due diligence, valuation and transaction structuring. Additionally, NLMC facilitates market-facing monetisation processes to ensure transparent transactions and competitive price discovery.
The latest recommendations reflect growing momentum in the government’s asset monetisation programme. The initiative aims to improve public asset management and encourage productive use of properties that government enterprises no longer require for their core operations.
The government expects these efforts to unlock the value of underutilised assets. Moreover, transparent and value-maximising transactions can support fresh investment and wider economic development.
