Telangana cuts monthly Metro-RTC travel pass price to ₹4,000

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has reduced the price of the monthly Metro-RTC travel pass from ₹8,500 to ₹4,000, giving relief to public transport commuters in Hyderabad. Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the revised fares will come into effect from 8 November. The daily common pass has also been cut from ₹400 to ₹275.

The government took the decision on the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. It followed widespread criticism over the high cost of the integrated pass. Prabhakar said the move aims to reduce the financial burden on commuters. He added that it will make public transportation more affordable and accessible.

Under the revised monthly structure, ₹3,000 will go towards Metro Rail journeys and ₹1,000 towards RTC bus services. Commuters can make up to 50 single Metro journeys a month. Meanwhile, RTC bus travel will remain unlimited. The monthly reduction means pass holders will save ₹4,500.

Daily fare falls from ₹400 to ₹275

The revised daily pass includes ₹200 for Metro travel and ₹75 for RTC services. It allows four single Metro journeys. As a result, daily pass users will save ₹125.

The government introduced the integrated pass to provide seamless travel through a common ticketing system across both public transport services. The common ticketing system covers Metro Rail and RTC buses alike. The latest revision responds to the criticism the original pricing drew from commuters.
