Hyderabad: City MLAs and corporators on Monday met GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and Commissioner R.V. Karnan and submitted objections over the redrawing of GHMC division boundaries.
The public representatives said the civic body carried out the exercise without adequate consultation. As a result, they raised concerns about its impact on governance and public representation. They urged the authorities to review the changes and consider the views of elected members.
In response, the Mayor informed the delegation that the GHMC would convene a special general body meeting on Tuesday. Through this meeting, members will present their objections and suggestions in a formal manner.
She further said the civic body would forward all submissions from the meeting to the state government for necessary action. Meanwhile, she assured the representatives that the administration would record their concerns officially.
Objections follow increase in GHMC divisions
The objections emerged after the state government increased the number of GHMC divisions to 300. Consequently, the decision drew criticism from several elected representatives across the city.
MLAs and corporators said the increase could strain administrative resources and affect effective governance. Moreover, they stressed that authorities should redraw GHMC division boundaries transparently and only after stakeholder consultation.
The representatives reiterated their demand for a review. They said future steps would depend on the outcome of the special general body meeting and the state government’s response.
