Revanth Reddy seeks Centre support for Young India schools

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and sought central support for Telangana’s Young India schools programme.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister explained the State government’s focus on inclusive education. Specifically, he outlined steps taken to improve access for BC, SC, ST, and minority students. He said the government planned to set up 105 integrated residential campuses across Telangana.

As a result, the initiative would directly benefit 2.7 lakh students. Moreover, several lakh others would gain indirectly through improved infrastructure and outreach. Each campus will offer education from Classes 5 to 12 and accommodate 2,560 students.

In addition, the schools will include modern classrooms, laboratories, and stadiums. These facilities aim to support both academic learning and physical development. Therefore, the model seeks to ensure holistic education for students.

Revanth Reddy said the total investment for these institutions and other education projects stood at ₹30,000 crore. To manage the funds efficiently, he proposed forming a Special Purpose Company. He also requested exemption from FRBM limits for the loans raised.

Centre reviews funding proposal for Young India schools

Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman welcomed the State’s education vision. She appreciated the focus on equity and access. She also praised the overall model adopted by Telangana.

However, she advised the State government to share detailed information on the proposed Special Purpose Company. This step, she said, would help the Centre examine the funding structure. Subsequently, the proposal could be considered at the appropriate level.

Officials said the meeting reflected Telangana’s effort to secure institutional backing. Ultimately, the goal is to strengthen public education systems and expand opportunities through Young India schools.
