Hyderabad: The Telangana State Election Commission began preparations for the upcoming Telangana municipal elections and decided to use the 2019 municipal polls voter list as the electoral base.
The SEC took the decision during a high-level meeting held on Wednesday to plan elections to municipal corporations and municipalities across the state. Senior officials from the municipal administration and other departments attended the meeting. Meanwhile, the commission also held a video conference with all district collectors.
The commission said it would publish the final voter list on January 16. Before that, authorities must release preliminary polling station details by January 13. The SEC directed officials to upload all polling station data on the T-Poll application.
In addition, the commission said it would accept claims and objections related to voter data until January 12. Verification of entries will begin on January 13, followed by publication of the final voter list on January 16.
Telangana municipal elections to follow strict monitoring measures
For the Telangana municipal elections, the SEC assigned Booth Level Officers to verify voter details at polling stations. It also enabled online voter registration and updating of voter data to improve accuracy and accessibility.
Moreover, the commission instructed officials to constitute Flying Squad Teams and Static Surveillance Teams. These teams will monitor the election process and ensure free and fair polls. The SEC also stressed strict enforcement of the model code of conduct throughout the election period.
Officials said the measures aimed to ensure transparency, accurate voter rolls, and smooth conduct of the municipal elections across Telangana.
