Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday urged the Centre to fully fund the Krishna-Vikarabad railway line and immediately begin work on the project.
During a meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at his Parliament chamber, Revanth Reddy sought complete central funding for the Krishna-Vikarabad railway line. He reminded the minister that the State government had already agreed to bear the full cost of land acquisition.
He informed Vaishnaw that authorities had identified limestone deposits at Tekalkode along the proposed route. Therefore, he said the government planned to develop the area as a hub for cement and textile industries.
Moreover, the Chief Minister outlined plans to develop Kodangal, Tekalkode and Daulatabad as industrial zones. He represents Kodangal in the Assembly. He also noted that the Krishna region’s proximity to cement industries in Karnataka offers strategic advantages.
According to Revanth Reddy, the Krishna-Vikarabad railway line will support industrial expansion in the region. Improved rail connectivity, he said, will ease transport of raw materials and finished goods.
High-speed corridors linked to Krishna-Vikarabad railway line proposal
In addition, the Chief Minister proposed allocating 500 acres near Shamshabad Airport for three high-speed rail corridors. These include the 778 km Hyderabad-Chennai corridor, the 586 km Hyderabad-Bengaluru corridor and the 556 km Hyderabad-Pune corridor.
He suggested that all three routes originate from Shamshabad, which houses the international airport. Furthermore, he proposed routing the Hyderabad-Chennai corridor through Amaravati. From there, he sought approval for a rail link to Bandar Port.
According to him, such connectivity would speed up cargo movement from the dry port to Bandar Port. Consequently, Shamshabad would emerge as a tri-junction if the Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Pune corridors converge near the airport.
Finally, Revanth Reddy urged the Railway Ministry to start land acquisition for the three corridors and begin construction without delay. In response, Vaishnaw assured him that the ministry would examine the proposals and initiate work.
