Hyderabad: The State government will launch 100 Telangana Public Schools from this academic year as a pilot project, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced on Thursday.
Accordingly, Telangana Public Schools will be established in one Assembly constituency each outside Hyderabad. Officials will develop these institutions on the lines of Telangana Public School, Arutla in Manchala mandal of Rangareddy district. The initiative aims to raise public education standards and improve access to quality schooling across the State.
Telangana Public Schools plan reviewed at education meet
Earlier, the Chief Minister reviewed the proposal during an Education Department meeting at the Command Control Centre. He directed officials to complete infrastructure upgrades in government schools under the CURE initiative within one year.
Under this programme, the government will construct 12 integrated schools with modern facilities. In addition, authorities will upgrade 164 schools and strengthen infrastructure in 17 CURE institutions. The new public school model will include teaching-friendly classrooms, playgrounds, adequate staffing and transport facilities. Therefore, the government expects these schools to serve as benchmarks for public education.
Meanwhile, as part of a 99-day action plan, the government will organise a week-long special session in schools and colleges. During this period, public representatives and officials will visit institutions, assess infrastructure and address pending issues.
Furthermore, the State will introduce short-term Artificial Intelligence training for teachers and lecturers. It will also roll out AI-based courses in polytechnics and Advanced Training Centres after phasing out outdated programmes.
The Chief Minister also reviewed a proposal to introduce breakfast for students from Primary to Class XII from the 2026–27 academic year. He directed officials to supply milk through Vijaya Dairy and distribute student kits containing textbooks, uniforms, school bags and shoes.
On higher education, he asked the Higher Education Board Chairman to submit a report on university funding requirements. He noted that the government has already allocated ₹1,000 crore to Osmania University.
Regarding private school fee regulation, the Chief Minister instructed District Collectors and DEOs to conduct field visits and submit reports. Subsequently, the government will form a committee under a retired judge or retired Chief Secretary to finalise the fee structure.
Finally, Telangana Education Commission Chairman Akunuri Murali submitted the Education Policy report to the Chief Minister. The government has assigned Advisor Dr. Kesava Rao to prepare recommendations on implementation and necessary legislation.
