New Delhi: The Legislative Department organised a water bodies workshop under Swachhata Pakhwada 2026 to promote conservation and restoration of water resources. The event was held at Shastri Bhawan under the guidance of Secretary Dr Rajiv Mani.
Officials said the water bodies workshop aimed to raise awareness about the role of water resources in ecological balance, water security, and sustainable development. The session saw participation from senior officers, staff members, and representatives from attached offices.
Moreover, Joint Secretary Gainilung Panmei and Additional Legislative Counsel R S Jayakrishnan attended the programme. They joined officials from the Official Language Wing and Vidhi Sahitya Prakashan during the session.
An expert session by Madhukar Swayambhu from INDIA-AIDS highlighted the environmental and health importance of water bodies. He said clean and well-maintained water resources supported biodiversity, reduced pollution, and improved groundwater recharge.

Water bodies workshop highlights health and environment impact
The expert noted that proper maintenance of water bodies helped prevent water-borne diseases such as cholera and typhoid. It also reduced the risk of vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue.
Furthermore, the water bodies workshop stressed collective responsibility in conservation efforts. Officials said awareness and coordinated action were essential to protect water resources.
Gainilung Panmei appreciated the expert’s contribution and called for sustained efforts from individuals and institutions. He emphasised that government initiatives and public participation must work together to restore water bodies.
The department said such programmes under Swachhata Pakhwada would continue to promote environmental awareness and responsible practices.
