Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Odisha is witnessing rapid transformation, with projects worth over ₹90,000 crore currently under execution, marking a major leap in railway expansion.
He highlighted that this unprecedented investment reflects the Centre’s strong commitment to strengthening connectivity, capacity, and efficiency across the state. As a result, both passenger and freight networks are being significantly upgraded.
Major investments drive connectivity and capacity expansion
The minister noted that Odisha has received a record railway budget allocation of ₹10,928 crore, which has accelerated the pace of execution. Moreover, this funding is enabling faster completion of critical infrastructure projects across regions.
In addition, 59 railway stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These upgrades aim to transform stations into modern, passenger-friendly hubs equipped with improved amenities and better accessibility.
During his visit, Vaishnaw reviewed the redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station and stressed the importance of timely completion. He said the revamped station will enhance passenger comfort while aligning with global standards.
Odisha rail infrastructure growth expands across districts
Focusing on long-term goals, the minister said all 30 districts in Odisha are being brought under rail connectivity. This move is expected to promote inclusive growth by linking remote and interior areas with major economic centres.
Furthermore, he pointed to key projects such as the proposed four-line coastal corridor between Balasore and Berhampur. This corridor will significantly increase capacity, reduce congestion, and improve overall efficiency along the busy coastal belt.
At the same time, such projects are expected to boost regional trade and mobility. Improved rail links will also support industries by ensuring smoother movement of goods.
Infrastructure push to fuel economic development
Vaishnaw emphasised that these initiatives will play a crucial role in driving economic growth. Better connectivity, he said, will attract investments and create new opportunities across sectors.
Overall, Odisha rail infrastructure growth is set to redefine the state’s transport landscape. With sustained investments and faster execution, the railway network is expected to become a key driver of development, integrating Odisha more closely with national logistics and passenger corridors.
