Hyderabad: Census 2027 entered a new phase on Friday as the government launched the Self-Enumeration facility in Tamil Nadu and Tripura. The online service will remain available until July 31. After that, enumerators will conduct door-to-door Houselisting and Housing Census from August 1 to 30.
Residents of both states can complete Self-Enumeration through the official Census portal. They must keep the generated Self-Enumeration ID ready and share it with the Enumerator during the field visit. This step will help officials complete the census process smoothly.
Meanwhile, field operations for the Houselisting and Housing Census continue in Kerala and Nagaland until July 30. However, Enumerators will visit households that do not choose the online option. Therefore, every household will remain part of the exercise.
The government also announced that 29 states and Union Territories have completed Phase 1 of Census 2027. These include Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and several other states and Union Territories.
Census 2027 adopts digital data collection
For the first time, Census 2027 uses digital tools to collect information through a dedicated mobile application. At the same time, officials have retained the traditional door-to-door enumeration process to ensure complete coverage.
During the Houselisting and Housing Census, Enumerators collect details about housing conditions, household amenities, assets and other information through a questionnaire containing 33 notified questions. Consequently, the exercise aims to build a comprehensive database for planning and policymaking.
The government said all information collected under the Census Act, 1948, will remain strictly confidential. Moreover, officials will use the data only for statistical purposes and development planning. Finally, the government urged residents in the notified states and Union Territories to cooperate fully with Enumerators and participate actively in the census process.
