New Delhi: The Department of Rural Development will organise a national workshop on AI rural development at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on June 25 to explore technology-driven solutions for grassroots transformation. The event will bring together NITI Aayog, the IndiaAI Mission, industry leaders, startups, academic institutions and knowledge partners to discuss how artificial intelligence can improve development outcomes in rural India.
Officials said the workshop aims to identify scalable AI applications that can support rural growth. It will also examine implementation experiences, institutional learning and the readiness of data systems needed for wider technology adoption across the country.
The day-long programme will serve as a collaborative platform for policymakers, experts and innovators. Participants will assess how emerging technologies can address local challenges while strengthening governance, service delivery and economic opportunities in villages.
Key discussions under AI rural development
The workshop will feature five thematic sessions. The first session will focus on integrating Digital Public Infrastructure with artificial intelligence to modernise rural governance systems. The second will examine how algorithm-based tools can improve welfare delivery, transparency and social protection services.
The third session will discuss predictive technologies for infrastructure management, climate resilience and asset tracking. The fourth will explore technology-enabled solutions for livelihoods, skilling and financial inclusion. The final session will address responsible AI practices, data privacy, policy compliance and strategies for scaling technology interventions.
In addition, panel discussions will include policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and startup founders. Speakers will share insights from field-level projects and innovative technology models. The Department of Rural Development expects the recommendations from the workshop to contribute to a policy roadmap for deploying safe, reliable and impactful AI solutions across rural India.
