America blocks India US trade deal until Russian oil imports cease

Delhi: The United States of America has demanded India cease purchasing oil from Russia before any India US trade agreement can proceed, according to an Economic Times report.

India has offered to lift certain restrictions on genetically modified corn imports and increase defense product purchases as part of ongoing negotiations. However, the United States maintains that Russian oil imports remain the primary obstacle to finalizing the trade deal.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal led an Indian delegation in positive discussions with American officials on various aspects of the potential agreement. Both sides examined possible roadmaps for the deal and decided to continue negotiations to expedite the India US trade agreement.
