New Delhi: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary, recalling her pioneering role in women’s education and social reform in India.
In a post on social media platform X, Shah said Savitribai Phule gave a new direction to women empowerment by linking women with the fundamental right to education. He noted that her efforts laid the foundation for social change in a deeply unequal society.
He said Savitribai Phule fought entrenched social evils at a time when educating women faced strong resistance. Despite opposition, she played a historic role in transforming attitudes towards women’s learning.
