Hyderabad: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay on Friday alleged that the state government had not given full freedom to the SIT probing the phone tapping case, raising concerns over the credibility of the investigation.
Speaking to reporters at Jubilee Hills, he said the probe had shown no tangible progress so far. Despite repeated claims by the government, he argued, the investigation failed to produce visible outcomes. Meanwhile, he said the public continued to closely monitor developments.
According to Bandi Sanjay, senior figures in the state administration were exerting pressure on SIT officials. While he described the officers as sincere and competent, he questioned whether they were free to function independently.
Seeking clarity, he asked the SIT to clearly define the scope of its inquiry. He questioned whether investigators were examining allegations against Harish Rao and K.T. Rama Rao or merely identifying the list of tapped phones.
Phone tapping case probe draws political criticism
Referring to the Assembly election period, Bandi Sanjay alleged that a control room operated from Sircilla to manage illegal surveillance. He further claimed that the activity involved financial transactions running into thousands of crores over the past decade.
He said the alleged surveillance affected real estate developers, business leaders, politicians, film celebrities and judges. According to him, the allegations pointed towards members of the KCR family, yet authorities had not taken custodial action against any senior figure.
Questioning the seriousness of the probe, he asked why the government had not arrested former SIB chief Prabhakar Rao, whom he described as the prime accused. He demanded that the SIT disclose concrete achievements instead of issuing routine updates.
Bandi Sanjay also accused the Congress government of using the issue to divert attention from corruption allegations. He warned that selective action would only deepen public distrust in the investigation.
