BRS alleges Congress planning large-scale irregularities in Jubilee Hills by-election

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan on Saturday accused the Congress party of planning systematic irregularities in the Jubilee Hills by-election scheduled for November 11. He alleged that the Congress, fearing defeat, was misusing official machinery and violating the Model Code of Conduct to influence the outcome.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Sravan said the BRS had collected credible evidence of an organised operation by the Congress to manipulate the election process. He, along with BRS General Secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar and former MLA J. Jeevan Reddy, submitted an urgent representation to the Election Commission of India seeking immediate action.

Dr. Sravan alleged that police and task force officials in Jubilee Hills were working in collusion with Congress leaders. Instead of ensuring a free and fair election, the law enforcement agencies were allegedly being used to threaten and detain BRS workers. He said several workers had been assaulted or intimidated, creating an atmosphere of fear in the constituency.

He criticised the Congress for holding large-scale celebrations on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s birthday in violation of election norms. Events held in the Erragadda division, including cake-cutting ceremonies, feasts, and saree distribution among voters, amounted to open bribery, he said. Despite these violations being widely reported, the Election Commission and police officials had failed to act, which he termed a “disgrace to democracy”.

Dr. Sravan claimed that Congress leaders were bringing in bogus voters from other constituencies and accommodating them in function halls across Shaikpet, Rahmathnagar, Yousufguda, Erragadda, and Borabanda. Fake voter identity cards were allegedly being printed and distributed to enable large-scale rigging on polling day. He said local police were assisting Congress agents and providing protection for these operations.

He identified several areas, including Gulshan Colony, Diamond Hills, Veerat Nagar, and Kohesar Colony in Shaikpet, as sensitive zones. Nearly 99 percent of polling booths in Rahmathnagar, Erragadda, Borabanda, and Yousufguda were also marked “extremely sensitive” due to the potential for rigging.

Dr. Sravan further alleged that AIMIM leaders were involved in these irregularities in coordination with Congress ministers. He named AIMIM MLA Kausar Moinuddin, MLC Rahmath Baig, and Congress ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy among those facilitating fake voter registration and threatening BRS agents.

The BRS memorandum submitted to the Election Commission demanded that Congress and AIMIM leaders be barred from entering the constituency after November 9. It sought the seizure of fake voter ID cards, deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and installation of CCTV cameras and live webcasting in all polling stations. The party urged the Commission to declare sensitive booths as “highly vulnerable” and deploy women police personnel to verify the identity of women voters.

Calling the situation a “threat to democracy,” Dr. Sravan said the Congress was using administrative machinery, money, and muscle power to distort the people’s mandate. He urged the Election Commission to act decisively under Article 324 of the Constitution to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
