BRS MLAs stopped at Assembly during maize protest march

Hyderabad: BRS MLAs were stopped at the Assembly gate during a maize protest march, after they attempted to enter with maize cobs to highlight farmer distress.

The legislators marched from Gun Park to the Assembly and staged a protest over agricultural issues. Earlier, they paid tributes at the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial before launching the march.

They carried maize cobs to draw attention to falling prices and pending dues. Moreover, they demanded remunerative prices for maize and release of Rythu Bharosa payments.

Maize protest march halted at Assembly gate by officials

As the MLAs tried to enter the Assembly, marshals blocked them at the gate. Officials said Assembly rules did not permit carrying such items inside the premises.

This led to a tense situation as leaders argued with police and marshals. Meanwhile, they raised slogans against the government and accused it of ignoring farmers.

The legislators questioned why farmer produce could not be taken into the Assembly. According to them, the House represents farmers and should allow their concerns to be raised.

They also alleged that stopping them from entering with maize was undemocratic. Furthermore, the party accused the government of suppressing voices on agricultural distress.

The protest ended at the gate, with BRS leaders reiterating their demands during the maize protest march.
