Hyderabad: Senior BRS leaders on Tuesday approached the State Election Commission (SEC) and sought immediate action over alleged municipal chairman poll irregularities across Telangana.
Former ministers Srinivas Goud and Koppula Eshwar, along with party leader RS Praveen Kumar, submitted a formal complaint to the Commission. They alleged irregular practices during chairman elections in 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations.
According to the delegation, ruling Congress leaders distributed money and resorted to attacks in several places. They also accused the police of influencing the election process. Therefore, they urged the SEC to step in and restore public trust.
The leaders referred to the High Court stay on the Ibrahimpatnam municipal chairman election. They said the court order pointed to serious procedural lapses. Moreover, they argued that such developments weakened confidence in the system.
They further claimed that several elections were postponed or managed for political benefit. In addition, they questioned the manner in which complaints were handled at the local level. The delegation insisted that the Commission must act without delay.

The BRS leaders said democracy was at risk if such trends continued. They maintained that free and fair local body polls were vital for grassroots governance. Therefore, they pressed for an impartial inquiry into the municipal chairman poll irregularities reported from different districts.
They asked the Commission to identify officials responsible for any lapses. They also demanded corrective steps to prevent repetition in future civic polls. Furthermore, the delegation called for transparent guidelines to ensure neutrality during municipal elections.
The party leaders said swift and firm action would help rebuild faith among voters. They added that accountability and oversight were essential to protect democratic norms in Telangana.
