Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi demanded a CBI or judicial probe into the alleged Singareni tender scam, accusing the Congress government of misusing public funds and manipulating tenders at Singareni Collieries Company Limited.
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao led a party delegation to meet Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Lok Bhavan on Tuesday. During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum along with documents alleging corruption in Singareni’s solar and mining projects.
Rama Rao said the government ignored repeated warnings raised by BRS leaders, including T. Harish Rao. He alleged that officials deliberately reissued tenders by adding a “Site Visit Certification” clause. According to him, this move led to a sharp escalation in project costs.
He further alleged that the government diverted ₹10 crore from Singareni funds for non-essential activities. Rama Rao claimed that solar power projects were awarded at nearly ₹7 crore per megawatt. He pointed out that the national average cost ranged between ₹2.5 crore and ₹3 crore per megawatt.
The BRS leader also raised concerns over a reported 30% increase in explosives prices. He alleged that the government targeted Singareni officials who flagged irregularities in procurement and project execution.
Singareni tender scam allegations submitted to Governor
Rama Rao said the BRS demanded a White Paper on Singareni tenders issued over the last nine months. He said the party sought details of companies that conducted site visits during this period. He also demanded disclosure of official communications, certificates issued, and the criteria used to select contractors.
Highlighting the ownership structure of Singareni, Rama Rao said the Telangana government held a 51% stake while the Centre owned the remaining 49%. He stressed that public funds were involved and taxpayers had a direct stake in the projects.
The BRS urged the Governor to recommend an independent investigation. According to Rama Rao, only an impartial probe could uncover the truth behind the alleged Singareni tender scam and ensure accountability.
