New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the NH-927 highway project to build a 4-lane access-controlled road between Barabanki and Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh.
Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet cleared the project at a cost of Rs.6969.04 crore under the Hybrid Annuity Mode. The 101.515 km corridor forms part of the Lucknow–Rupaidiha route.
According to the government, the NH-927 highway project will address sharp curves, congestion and geometric deficiencies along the existing stretch. As a result, it will improve safety and reduce travel time to nearly one hour.
The project includes continuous service roads and bypasses to avoid densely populated areas. Moreover, it aims to enhance fuel efficiency and lower vehicle operating costs.
Officials said the upgraded corridor will strengthen regional mobility and support socio-economic development. In addition, it will connect key economic, social and logistics nodes across the state.
NH-927 highway project to boost connectivity and trade
Meanwhile, the highway will link major national highways such as NH-27, NH-330B and NH-730, along with state highways SH-13 and SH-30B. It will also improve access to airports in Lucknow and Shravasti.
The corridor will connect multiple railway stations, including Barabanki, Rasauli and Bahraich. Furthermore, it will provide better access to the Rupaidiha Land Port, strengthening cross-border trade with Nepal.
Authorities said the project will integrate three economic nodes, two social nodes and 12 logistics nodes. As a result, it will support agri-trade, tourism and regional investment.
The highway will also improve connectivity to remote districts such as Bahraich and Shravasti. Additionally, it aligns with the PM Gati Shakti initiative for infrastructure development.
Officials estimated that the project will generate 36.54 lakh person-days of direct employment and 43.04 lakh person-days indirectly. Traffic projections for FY-28 indicate significant usage across both project packages.
