Hyderabad: The Central Government on Friday clarified that the recent fuel price hike from excise duty on petrol and diesel would not affect consumers. Oil companies will absorb the extra burden, keeping retail fuel prices unchanged.
The clarification came after public concern over the Rs 2 per litre hike in excise duty. Many feared higher household and transport costs. However, officials confirmed that the government had directed oil companies to bear the cost.
Petrol and diesel prices unchanged
In Hyderabad, petrol remained at Rs 107.46 per litre and diesel at Rs 95.70. Visakhapatnam recorded Rs 108.38 for petrol and Rs 96.26 for diesel. Vijayawada reported Rs 109.02 and Rs 96.85. Officials said prices were being monitored closely to maintain stability.
The Centre’s assurance offered relief to consumers already facing rising living costs. Yet, motorists expressed disappointment that the fuel price hike did not lead to any reduction despite fluctuations in global crude oil. Many said they hoped for cuts in the coming months.
Officials added that oil companies would continue to absorb the duty increase. The government is monitoring international crude oil markets and may review domestic fuel prices if trends shift.
