New Delhi: The Centre has extended limited ALMM List-II relief for net-metering and open access renewable energy projects until December 31, 2026. However, it ruled out any change in the existing policy or a blanket exemption for all solar projects.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said the relaxation applies only to selected projects. Earlier, the exemption was available until May 31, 2026.
The government clarified that the ALMM List-II policy for solar PV cells remains unchanged. Therefore, other solar projects must continue to comply with the existing requirements.
The Ministry said the extension followed consultations with stakeholders across the solar industry. Moreover, it aims to ensure a smooth transition as domestic solar cell manufacturing capacity continues to expand.
ALMM List-II relief supports industry transition
The Centre said the limited exemption will help standalone solar PV module manufacturers use their existing inventories. As a result, manufacturers will receive additional time to source solar cells from companies listed under ALMM List-II.
The Ministry also said the number of approved solar cell manufacturers under the list continues to increase. Consequently, the industry will have more time to adjust to the revised sourcing requirements.
The government reiterated its commitment to strengthening domestic solar manufacturing. Furthermore, it said the policy supports the goal of making India self-reliant in solar PV production and a major player in the global supply chain.
The Ministry has published the official order on its website. It said the latest decision balances industry requirements with the long-term objective of expanding domestic manufacturing capacity.
