Hyderabad: The Congress government stepped up preparations for municipal elections in Telangana as Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy assigned senior ministers as election in-charges across the State.
The move followed a Cabinet meeting held at Medaram, where the government decided to conduct municipal elections in February. Soon after the meeting, the Chief Minister distributed responsibilities to senior leaders for municipalities and municipal corporations across the State’s 17 parliamentary constituencies.
According to party sources, the appointed in-charges will play a key role in candidate selection. They will also oversee local campaigning and monitor booth-level organisation. In addition, they will ensure daily coordination in towns and cities during the election period.
Municipal elections plan assigns leaders region-wise
As part of the municipal elections strategy, Sudarshan Reddy was given charge of Adilabad, while Uttam Kumar Reddy was assigned Nizamabad. Komatireddy Venkat Reddy was named in-charge for Malkajgiri, and Sridhar Babu was entrusted with Chevella.
Further, the party appointed Tummala Nageswara Rao as in-charge for Karimnagar. Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy will oversee Warangal, while Konda Surekha was given responsibility for Khammam.
Congress leaders said the appointments reflected a strong focus on urban areas. They added that the party aimed to put effective teams in place well before polling.
Meanwhile, party leaders said they expected the Election Commission of India to announce the municipal elections schedule within the next three days. Political activity is likely to intensify across Telangana once the notification is issued.
