Congress will win municipal polls decisively: Vivek Venkatswamy

Hyderabad: Labour and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy on Friday expressed confidence that the Congress would register a decisive victory in the upcoming municipal elections, asserting that all surveys were clearly in the party’s favour.

Addressing a preparatory meeting of party leaders and cadres at Sangareddy, the Minister said Congress workers were highly enthusiastic. Therefore, he urged everyone to work collectively to ensure the success of party candidates. Constituency in-charges, local leaders and a large number of party workers attended the meeting.

Vivek Venkatswamy said the Congress enjoyed a strong organisational base in Medak district. Moreover, he said the party had performed well in areas such as Patancheru and Sangareddy. At the same time, he noted that the leadership was strengthening the organisation in regions where its presence remained weak.

Highlighting welfare measures, the Minister said the Congress government had implemented schemes across the state without discrimination. In contrast, he alleged that public welfare was neglected during the BRS regime’s ten-year rule.

“Under the Congress government, Indiramma Houses have been sanctioned, ration cards issued, interest-free loans provided, benefits extended to self-help groups and petrol pumps sanctioned to women,” he said.

Congress municipal polls strategy and development promises

During the meeting, Vivek Venkatswamy announced that he would coordinate with the Chief Minister’s Office to secure ₹15 crore for the development of Indresham Municipality. He said the funds would support infrastructure and civic works.

Calling for unity, he advised party leaders and cadres to avoid groupism. Instead, he urged them to work together for electoral success. He added that the party would always stand by sincere and committed workers.

Recalling the recent Jubilee Hills by-election, the Minister said Congress had delivered an impressive victory despite an initially unfavourable atmosphere. As a result, he said the win significantly boosted the party’s morale.

He further said he continued to work for the welfare of labourers and marginalised sections, drawing inspiration from late Kaka Venkatswamy.

Responding to remarks by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, Vivek Venkatswamy alleged that the BRS had remained on a losing path since KTR took charge. He claimed the party lost successive elections and eroded public trust under his leadership.

“The BRS created social media hype ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections but suffered a humiliating defeat. Subsequently, Congress won the by-elections as well,” he said.
