Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and MLC Dasoju Sravan on Wednesday condemned the Balka Suman arrest and accused the Congress government of undermining democratic processes in Kyathanpally of Mancherial district.
In a press statement, he described the action as high-handed and politically motivated. Moreover, he alleged that authorities deployed heavy police presence during the operation. Therefore, he termed the move unconstitutional and called it an attack on the voice of a Dalit leader.
Sravan claimed that the BRS held a majority in Kyathanpally municipality. However, he alleged that councillors were prevented from reaching the municipal office. He further stated that officials delayed the election process by citing lack of quorum. According to him, the ruling party used police machinery to influence the outcome.
Allegations linked to Balka Suman arrest in Kyathanpally
Sravan accused the government of encouraging intimidation in municipalities with closely contested mandates. In addition, he referred to Jangaon, Thorrur, Ibrahimpatnam and Zaheerabad, alleging similar developments. In those areas, he claimed, councillors faced pressure during municipal proceedings.
He urged the State Election Commission to intervene immediately. Furthermore, he alleged that police interference had reduced municipal elections to a farce. He demanded the unconditional release of the former MLA and other detained BRS leaders.
The MLC warned that the opposition would intensify protests if the government failed to reverse what he described as undemocratic actions.
