Rajnath Singh releases Defence Forces Vision 2047 roadmap

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh released the Defence Forces Vision document outlining a roadmap to build a future-ready Indian military by 2047.

He unveiled the blueprint titled “Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military” at South Block in New Delhi on Tuesday. Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff prepared the document.

Officials said the roadmap aims to transform the armed forces into a modern and technologically advanced military. It also supports India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

The vision outlines strategic reforms, capability upgrades and organisational changes across the defence forces. Therefore, the plan focuses on preparing the military for evolving security and technological challenges.

The document also proposes building an integrated and multi-domain force. Such a structure will help the services deter adversaries and respond across the full spectrum of conflict.

Defence Forces Vision focuses on jointness and technology

A major theme in the Defence Forces Vision document is stronger jointness among the services. Officials said improved coordination in planning and operations will enhance overall combat effectiveness.

The roadmap also highlights the role of innovation and advanced technology. In addition, it calls for modern training frameworks to prepare personnel for future warfare environments.

Another key priority is Aatmanirbharta in defence production. Therefore, the plan encourages greater use of indigenous technologies tailored to India’s security requirements.

Officials said stronger domestic defence manufacturing will improve operational readiness. At the same time, it will contribute to national industrial growth.

The document proposes a phased roadmap with short-term, medium-term and long-term capability goals. Consequently, authorities can align institutional reforms and partnerships with the broader defence strategy.

It also emphasises a whole-of-nation approach to national security. This approach integrates military capability with diplomatic, technological and economic strength.

Officials said the roadmap aims to build a globally respected and combat-ready military by the centenary of India’s independence.

Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan attended the event along with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and Air Chief Marshal AP Singh. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and other senior officials were also present.
