Delhi: Multiple diplomats walked out of the UN General Assembly hall on Friday as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began delivering his speech, though Netanyahu continued his address despite the boycott.
Netanyahu declared that circumstances had changed over the past year, claiming Israel had eliminated all its enemies. During his speech, he asserted that Israel had destroyed the Houthi forces in Yemen, Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Assad’s regime in Syria, and most importantly, Iran’s nuclear program.
The Israeli Prime Minister traveled to New York via an alternative route to attend the UN meeting, as an International Criminal Court warrant remains active against him. Furthermore, Netanyahu avoided the airspace of five European countries, traveling an additional 600 kilometers to reach the United States.
Netanyahu UN speech targets Iran’s regional influence
Netanyahu argued that Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs aimed not only at destroying Israel but also at threatening America and pressuring countries worldwide. He emphasized that Iran’s ambitions extended beyond regional conflicts to global intimidation.
The Prime Minister contrasted the current situation with his previous UN appearance, when Iran was rapidly advancing its nuclear and missile programs while its proxies Hamas and Hezbollah continuously targeted Israel. However, Netanyahu claimed that Israel had now eliminated these threats through decisive military action.
During his address, Netanyahu maintained that the strategic balance in the Middle East had fundamentally shifted in Israel’s favor. Nevertheless, the diplomatic walkout demonstrated continuing international tensions over Israeli policies and actions in the region.
