Government highlights simplified compliance framework under DPDP Act

New Delhi: The government informed Parliament that the DPDP Act and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, notified on 13 November 2025, offer a simplified compliance framework for start-ups and selected data fiduciaries. Officials said the government has also notified the Digital Data Protection Board under the Rules. Moreover, they explained that the Act and Rules empower authorities to identify jurisdictions where personal data transfers may face restrictions.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada told the Lok Sabha that the government is working to expand awareness and adoption of the DPDP Act. He said citizens are learning about their rights and responsibilities through several initiatives. In addition, these efforts include workshops, conferences, expert-led sessions and digital outreach programmes that support smooth implementation.

Officials added that the Act and Rules outline clear timelines for the rollout of each provision. As a result, stakeholders gain certainty and the broader data-protection ecosystem grows stronger. They also said the simplified compliance model helps start-ups and specific data fiduciaries adjust to new regulatory standards.

Furthermore, the government highlighted that continued outreach will promote nationwide understanding of the data-protection framework. According to officials, these programmes encourage responsible digital practices and informed participation as the DPDP Act comes into effect.
