Chandipur: DRDO successfully conducted the maiden Pinaka LRGR test at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur on December 29, 2025, validating the rocket’s maximum range of 120 km and its in-flight manoeuvring capability.
The Long Range Guided Rocket, designated LRGR 120, met all mission objectives during the test. The rocket demonstrated planned flight manoeuvres and hit the designated target with high precision, officials said.
Range instrumentation tracked the Pinaka LRGR test throughout its trajectory. Data confirmed the accuracy, stability, and performance parameters of the rocket system during the full flight profile.
The Armament Research and Development Establishment designed the rocket in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory. Defence Research and Development Laboratory and Research Centre Imarat provided critical technical support.
The test team launched the rocket from an in-service Pinaka launcher. Officials said this confirmed the system’s versatility, as the same launcher can deploy Pinaka variants of different ranges without modification.
Pinaka LRGR test validates launcher compatibility and combat readiness
The Integrated Test Range coordinated the trial along with the Proof and Experimental Establishment. Officials said the successful Pinaka LRGR test strengthened confidence in the system’s operational readiness.
Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO scientists and engineers for the achievement. He said the successful development of long-range guided rockets would significantly enhance the Armed Forces’ strike capability and described it as a game changer.
Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman Samir V. Kamat witnessed the test. He congratulated the teams for achieving all mission objectives and noted that the successful Pinaka LRGR test marked an important milestone in indigenous rocket development.
Officials said the system would strengthen India’s artillery firepower by enabling precision strikes at extended ranges while using existing launch platforms.
