DRI seizes 105 kg ganja in Bihar, two arrested

Bihar: A major ganja seizure in Bihar led to the recovery of 104.9 kg of cannabis and the arrest of two people under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) carried out the operation on May 30. The agency said the action formed part of its nationwide drive against drug trafficking networks.

Moreover, officials said the operation aimed to disrupt organised narcotics supply chains. As a result, investigators intercepted a large quantity of the banned substance.

DRI stated that its Lucknow Zonal Unit has intensified anti-narcotics operations in Bihar. Consequently, the agency has detected several major cases during the past year.

According to official data, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances seized in Bihar carried an estimated illicit market value of nearly ₹46.5 crore. Meanwhile, authorities arrested 31 people in connection with those cases.

The agency reported several major recoveries. These included 107.5 kg of charas, 1,277.81 kg of ganja and 18.92 kg of high-grade hydroponic weed.

In addition, officials seized 6 kg of cocaine and 112.8 grams of heroin. They also intercepted 8,012 bottles of illegally diverted codeine-based cough syrup.

Ganja seizure highlights wider anti-drug operations

Furthermore, DRI said coordinated intelligence-based operations helped identify organised criminal networks involved in narcotics trafficking.

As part of the crackdown, investigators tracked key trafficking routes and gathered intelligence on supply chains. Therefore, enforcement teams were able to target multiple smuggling activities.

Officials said the agency remains focused on dismantling drug networks. At the same time, it continues efforts to bring offenders to justice.

According to DRI, sustained enforcement action remains essential to reducing the availability of narcotics in the illicit market.

Additionally, officials said the latest ganja seizure reflects the government’s commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking across the country.

The agency added that its operations support the national objective of creating a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” or Drug-Free India.

Going forward, DRI plans to strengthen enforcement measures further. It will also coordinate closely with other agencies to curb narcotics smuggling and related criminal activities.
