Hyderabad: President Droupadi Murmu praised the expanding development efforts for tribal communities while addressing the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration organised by the Chhattisgarh Government in Ambikapur on November 20, 2025. She said the country recognises tribal heritage as a vital foundation of India’s democratic values, noting that traditions like the Muria Darbar of Bastar stand as early examples of people-driven governance.
The President stated that tribal culture remains deeply embedded across regions such as Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand. She appreciated the Chhattisgarh Government for celebrating Tribal Pride Fortnight from November 1 to 15, emphasising that such initiatives strengthen identity and encourage inclusive progress. She added that the past decade has seen several national-level programmes designed to support tribal communities through targeted development measures.
A major example she cited was the Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, launched last year on Gandhi Jayanti.
The campaign aims to reach more than 50 million tribal citizens with welfare support. She also mentioned the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan, introduced in 2023 to uplift 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups. According to President Droupadi Murmu, these programmes demonstrate the government’s strong commitment to improving social and economic opportunities for tribal families.
The President highlighted the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, launched during the 150th birth anniversary year of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Droupadi Murmu noted that the initiative is building a national network of nearly 20 lakh volunteers who will work at the grassroots level. She expressed confidence that this volunteer force will energise local development and help bridge gaps in remote tribal regions.
Droupadi Murmu also welcomed the steady decline of Left Wing Extremism in several areas, observing that many people are joining mainstream development. She credited coordinated efforts of both central and state governments for this shift. The President noted that more than 165,000 participants took part in the recent Bastar Olympics, calling it a significant symbol of growing unity and confidence.
President Droupadi Murmu concluded that by following the ideals of tribal icons, the people of Chhattisgarh will continue contributing to a strong, self-reliant and developed India.
