Sridhar Babu launches drug-resistant TB kits in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu launched drug-resistant TB kits manufactured in Genome Valley on Tuesday, strengthening efforts to detect tuberculosis more effectively in India.

He said Telangana has secured a distinct place globally in producing advanced diagnostic technologies. Moreover, he noted that drug-resistant tuberculosis remains a major public health challenge.

According to the minister, the disease does not respond to standard treatment methods. Therefore, early detection and timely intervention remain critical to saving lives and preventing its spread.

He added that the new diagnostic tools highlight Telangana’s growing role in healthcare innovation and life sciences manufacturing.

Drug-resistant TB kits produced in Genome Valley

Sridhar Babu launched the diagnostic tools at the Assembly committee hall in Hyderabad. French diagnostics company bioMérieux manufactures the kits at its facility in Genome Valley.

The minister said the initiative strengthens India’s capacity to detect and control tuberculosis. In addition, he appreciated the company’s contribution to the country’s TB elimination efforts.

Marc Lamy, Consul General of France in Bengaluru, attended the event. Charles Mahy, Counsellor for Health and Social Affairs at the French Embassy in India, also participated.

Alexandre Mérieux, Executive Chairman of bioMérieux, and Telangana Lifesciences Director Sarvesh Singh were present at the programme.

Furthermore, the launch reflects growing international collaboration in healthcare development. Sridhar Babu said bioMérieux plays a major role in advancing diagnostic technologies worldwide.

The company operates in more than 160 countries and develops solutions for infectious diseases, cancer and industrial microbiology.

Meanwhile, the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry presented a report on India-France trade relations to the minister. The report highlighted the increasing presence of French companies in Telangana.

He said such partnerships support innovation and economic growth. The initiative also reinforces Telangana’s position in global healthcare manufacturing.
