Explosion damages ONGC pipeline in Konaseema district, gas leak feared

Konaseema: A loud explosion damaged an ONGC pipeline in Andhra Pradesh’s Konaseema district on Monday, triggering fears of a possible gas leak and creating panic among local residents in nearby villages.

According to local sources, residents heard a sudden loud sound in the area and noticed tremors soon after. Consequently, several villagers rushed out of their homes and alerted the local administration and police about the incident. The blast reportedly occurred near an ONGC pipeline corridor, raising immediate concerns about gas leakage.

Soon after receiving the alert, emergency response teams and ONGC technical staff rushed to the site. Meanwhile, local police also reached the area to manage crowds and assist safety operations. Officials said the teams began an initial assessment to understand the extent of damage to the pipeline.

As a precautionary step, authorities cordoned off the affected stretch and restricted public movement. In addition, officials advised residents living nearby to stay away from the site until inspections were completed. Police personnel remained deployed in the area to ensure that safety instructions were followed.

ONGC engineers initiated detailed checks of the pipeline to identify any rupture or leakage. At the same time, safety teams monitored the surroundings for signs of gas emission. Officials said these measures were necessary to prevent any secondary incident and to protect residents.

Officials said the exact cause of the ONGC pipeline explosion was not immediately known. However, they confirmed that a technical investigation had begun to determine whether corrosion, pressure fluctuations, or external factors caused the blast.

According to preliminary information, no injuries were reported in the incident. Nevertheless, authorities said they remained cautious due to the potential risk associated with gas pipelines. They also stated that ONGC follows strict safety protocols and would take corrective steps based on the findings.
