New Delhi: The FASTag Annual Pass crossed the 50-lakh user milestone within six months of launch, recording more than 26.55 crore toll transactions, the government said on Thursday.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said the achievement showed rising acceptance of the scheme among private vehicle owners. Authorities launched the initiative on August 15, 2025, to enhance ease of commuting on national highways and expressways.
Officials said nearly 28% of all car transactions on the national highway network now used the annual toll facility. This trend pointed to a shift toward prepaid yearly travel among frequent commuters.
Data also showed strong usage at major toll plazas. Bijwasan Fee Plaza in Delhi NCR topped the list, with about 57% of car crossings using the yearly pass. Mundaka Fee Plaza in Delhi NCR and Jhinjholi Fee Plaza in Sonipat followed, each recording around 53% usage among non-commercial vehicles.
Regional trends highlight FASTag Annual Pass adoption
Region-wise figures showed Chandigarh leading usage, contributing 14% of total yearly transactions nationwide. Tamil Nadu followed with 12.3%, while Delhi accounted for 11.5%. Officials said the figures reflected widespread adoption across both northern urban centres and southern states.
The annual toll facility applies at around 1,150 fee plazas on national highways and expressways. Users pay a one-time fee of ₹3,000 for one year or up to 200 crossings. The scheme covers all non-commercial vehicles fitted with a valid FASTag.
According to the ministry, the pass activates within two hours on the existing tag after payment. Commuters can complete the process through the Rajmargyatra mobile app or the NHAI website.
The government said rising usage confirmed the effectiveness of the annual toll model in enabling smoother and more economical highway travel.
