Hyderabad: The government provisionally selected five companies under the PLI White Goods scheme in the fourth round, committing ₹863 crore investment in air conditioner component manufacturing.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade evaluated 13 applications before finalising the selections. All five firms focus on producing critical components for air conditioners.
Together, these companies plan to achieve production worth ₹8,337.24 crore by FY 2027–28. In addition, the projects will create 1,799 direct jobs over the same period.
Officials said the selection process aimed to strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity. As a result, the scheme continues to reduce import dependence in key components.
Meanwhile, authorities referred eight other applicants to the Committee of Experts for detailed review. The committee will submit recommendations after technical evaluation.
PLI White Goods scheme to drive large-scale investment
Beyond the fourth round, the PLI White Goods scheme covers a total of 85 companies across air conditioners and LED lights. Collectively, these firms plan to invest ₹11,198 crore over the scheme period.
According to government estimates, this investment will generate cumulative production worth ₹1,90,050 crore. Therefore, the scheme plays a central role in scaling India’s electronics manufacturing base.
Under the scheme, air conditioner manufacturers will produce compressors, copper tubes, control assemblies, heat exchangers and BLDC motors. At the same time, LED manufacturers will develop chip packaging, drivers, engines and light management systems within India.
The Union Cabinet approved the PLI White Goods scheme on April 7, 2021, with a total outlay of ₹6,238 crore. Subsequently, DPIIT notified the scheme on April 16, 2021, for implementation from FY 2021–22 to FY 2028–29.
Officials said the scheme aims to integrate India into global supply chains. Moreover, it seeks to raise domestic value addition from 20–25% to 75–80% over time. Incentives ranging from 6% to 4% on incremental sales support this transition.
