Ganesh Visarjan in Mumbai and Hyderabad under heavy security and new AI monitoring

Hyderabad: Ganesh Visarjan ceremonies for Anant Chaturdashi began across India on Saturday, with large-scale arrangements in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Thousands of idols are being immersed in water bodies under tight security.

In Mumbai, authorities planned the immersion of more than 1.80 lakh idols. These include 6,500 from community pandals and 1.75 lakh from households. Devotees are taking the idols to beaches, reservoirs, and 205 artificial ponds.

To maintain order, police deployed 21,000 personnel. For the first time, Mumbai police used artificial intelligence to manage routes. An AI-based control room at Girgaon Chowpatty is monitoring processions in real time. Ganesh committees received QR codes and vehicle stickers for tracking.

Civic teams installed 1,175 steel plates at beaches to prevent vehicles from sinking in sand. They arranged 50 German rafts to handle large idols. At immersion points, 245 control rooms are operating, with 42 cranes, 2,178 lifeguards, and 56 motorboats on duty for rescue efforts.

In Hyderabad, police prepared for the immersion of two lakh idols. Commissioner C.V. Anand said more than 50,000 personnel are on duty. The immersion, expected to last 40 hours, is underway at major water bodies across the city.
