Gig workers thank minister for welfare law in Telangana

Hyderabad: Gig workers, union leaders and their families met Labour and Mines Minister Dr G Vivek Venkatswamy and thanked him for the gig workers welfare law enacted in Telangana.

They visited his residence in Somajiguda on April 5 and expressed gratitude for the legislation. The meeting brought together workers and union representatives from across the state. Moreover, they appreciated the government’s move to address their long-standing concerns.

The Telangana Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2026 marks a major step to protect their rights. In addition, the law focuses on social security and welfare measures for platform-based workers.

The delegation also thanked the Chief Minister and the Labour Department for advancing the law. At the same time, they said the initiative reflected the government’s commitment to labour welfare.

Gig workers welfare law drives push for stronger implementation

Vivek Venkatswamy said the government stands by workers who form the backbone of the economy. He added that gig workers play a key role in the expanding platform-based sector. Therefore, he stressed the need for effective enforcement of the new law.

Meanwhile, he said officials will prioritise implementation and outreach in the coming months. He added that the government aims to extend welfare schemes to all sections of society. Furthermore, he reiterated that no group will be left out of development efforts.

The delegation was led by Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union president Shaik Salauddin. He said the gig workers welfare law will benefit lakhs of families across the state. He also expressed confidence that more workers will gain support in the future.

Officials described the Act as a significant step toward recognising and securing the rights of gig workers in Telangana. Overall, the measure aims to strengthen social protection and improve working conditions.
