Harish Rao alleges illegal quarrying near ORR by minister-linked firm

Hyderabad: BRS leader T Harish Rao alleged illegal quarrying near ORR by a firm he linked to Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and demanded immediate government action.

He accused Raghava Constructions of operating quarries in the Manasa Hills area of Rajendranagar mandal without statutory permissions. According to him, the firm blasted hills and transported rock and concrete using heavy machinery round the clock.

Harish Rao questioned the State government’s silence over the alleged violations. He claimed that revenue, mining, Telangana Pollution Control Board and HMDA officials ignored the activity for several months.

He further alleged that the company lacked Consent for Establishment and Consent for Operation from the Pollution Control Board. In addition, he claimed it did not obtain environmental clearance from the Union Environment Ministry. He also said the firm had not secured a valid mining lease from the Mines and Geology Department.

Harish Rao demands probe into illegal quarrying near ORR

Harish Rao alleged that the operators had no land conversion approval or HMDA clearance. Moreover, he said they lacked an explosives licence, groundwater permission and revenue sanction. Therefore, he asked whether authorities were deliberately overlooking the activity.

He questioned whether one set of rules applied to ordinary citizens and another to ministers and their families. While agencies acted against common people, minister-linked firms operated freely, he alleged.

The BRS leader also accused the Chief Minister of allotting 17 acres of government land through nomination without open bidding for a quarry linked to his son-in-law’s associates. Consequently, he demanded cancellation of the allotment and sought transparent bidding to prevent loss to the State exchequer.

He criticised HYDRA and asked why it had not intervened to stop quarrying on government land. Finally, he demanded closure of the alleged illegal quarrying near ORR and recovery of extracted material with penalty.

Harish Rao said he had released photographs and details to the media. He added that he would visit the site himself if authorities failed to act.
