Hyderabad: Dasoju Sravan Kumar alleged illegal crushing operations in the GO 111 zone near Kokapet and accused officials of ignoring environmental violations. He said a crushing unit in the Neopolis area was operating in the Himayatsagar catchment zone.
A fact-finding team formed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi inspected the Bhagyalakshmi Minerals crushing unit on Wednesday morning. After the visit, party leaders addressed the media and highlighted alleged irregularities at the site.
Sravan claimed the unit belonged to associates of Ramesh Reddy, whom he described as a nephew of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. According to him, the operation continued despite lacking approvals from several departments.
He alleged that large-scale illegal crushing was taking place across nearly 17 acres of land. He also claimed the unit generated revenues of ₹3–4 crore every month.
The BRS leader questioned why authorities denied ordinary citizens permission to construct houses within the GO 111 limits. However, he said officials ignored heavy crushing operations in the same zone.
BRS team flags illegal crushing and environmental damage
The inspection team included R. S. Praveen Kumar, Rajendranagar in-charge Patlolla Karthik Reddy, former SC/ST Commission chairman Errolla Srinivas, former BC Commission member Kishore Goud, former Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation chairman Manne Krishank, former Telangana Wildlife Board member S. Raghavender, former Finance Commission member G. Srinivas Yadav and senior leader Abhilash Rangineni.
Sravan alleged that three advanced crushers were flattening hillocks at the site. As a result, he said the activity caused serious environmental damage in the Himayatsagar catchment area.
He also questioned the role of the district administration, the Pollution Control Board and the Mining Department. According to him, officials failed to act despite the scale of the activity.
Sravan further alleged that the 17-acre land parcel was allotted through a nomination process. He called the allotment a violation of established norms.
He claimed there were reports that nearby construction projects were informally asked to purchase gravel from the same unit. The BRS leader accused the government of protecting the operation.
Sravan warned that the party would approach the courts if authorities failed to respond. He added that the party was also prepared to move the National Green Tribunal over the issue.
