IMD warns of heavy rainfall in telangana; several districts at risk

Hyderabad: Heavy rainfall in Telangana is expected this week, with the IMD warning that several districts may face intense showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The department linked the prediction to a developing low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. It said Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, and Warangal were most likely to be hit. Other regions could see thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph.

While August initially brought a surplus of 14 percent rainfall, a sharp decline over the last five days reversed the situation. By Monday, Telangana was facing a nine percent deficit.

District data revealed Nirmal’s rainfall shortfall at 44 percent, the highest in the state. Peddapalli, Bhupalpally, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Mancherial, Sangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri also recorded deficits, ranging between 21 and 4 percent.

The IMD urged caution as weather conditions remain volatile under the active monsoon.
