Hyderabad: MPs of the INDIA alliance staged a protest over LPG price rise and cylinder shortages near Makar Dwar at Parliament, accusing the Centre of ignoring the issue.
Opposition members gathered at the Parliament entrance and held a demonstration highlighting the LPG price rise and supply problems.
They displayed posters of LPG cylinders, cooking vessels and traditional firewood stoves to show the impact on households.
Several senior Congress leaders joined the protest.
These included Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra along with other INDIA alliance MPs.
The leaders raised slogans and demanded that the government address the LPG price rise and supply shortages affecting families.
INDIA alliance MPs demand debate on LPG price rise
Bhuvanagiri MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy addressed the gathering during the protest.
He criticised the central government and questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not spoken about the LPG cylinder shortage.
The MP also asked why Parliament had not discussed the war situation unfolding in West Asian countries.
He demanded that the government allow a debate on both issues inside Parliament.
Kiran Kumar Reddy urged the Centre to resolve the LPG price rise and supply shortage immediately.
However, he alleged that the government had not allowed discussion of these matters in the 18th Lok Sabha.
The MP further accused the government of suppressing the opposition’s voice in Parliament.
He also criticised the Prime Minister over remarks similar to those made by US President Donald Trump.
Kiran Kumar Reddy questioned why Narendra Modi had not opposed actions taken by Trump.
He also asked why the Prime Minister appeared reluctant to challenge the US leader.
The MP finally demanded that Narendra Modi speak in Parliament about the war situation in West Asia and its wider impact.
